Last Thursday, two boats collided during a practice round for the Bassmaster College Series tournament on Lake Murray in South Carolina.

Although we didn’t receive many details about the crash itself, we learned that three anglers involved in the crash were taken to the hospital. Two of the three were later released from the hospital, with no update on the condition of the third angler involved.

However, we learned the heartbreaking news today that the angler who remained in the hospital, Western Kentucky angler Johnathan Brian, had passed away from his injuries.

Bassmaster posted a message to their Instagram page:

“As previously shared, two boats were involved in an incident on Thursday of last week, resulting in injuries, during the practice round for the Bassmaster College Series event on Lake Murray. On Friday, two of the three anglers who were hospitalized were released.

Authorities have since confirmed the death of Western Kentucky angler Johnathan Brian.

‘We are all heartbroken to learn the news of Johnathan’s tragic death,’ said B.A.S.S. CEO Chase Anderson.

B.A.S.S. will continue to support the ongoing investigation into the incident.

‘Our hearts go out to Johnathan’s family, friends, and college fishing community,’ Anderson said, ‘and we continue to offer our deepest condolences, thoughts, and prayers to Johnathan’s family and loved ones while respecting their privacy during this painful time.'”

Absolutely devastating news, as you never want to see anybody pass away doing something they love, especially when they’re in college.
