Just perfect.

A couple weeks ago, Megan Moroney released a stunning acoustic live performance video of Chris Stapleton’s “What Are You Listening To,” and today, she put out a real deal studio cover.

It was previously only available as an Amazon exclusive, but I was always hoping she’d eventually release a version that was available on all streaming platforms because it’s so damn good.

I’ve always felt like it was one of Stapleton’s most underrated songs, which he wrote with Lee Thomas Miller, and it was actually his debut single to country radio back in 2013 after signing with Mercury Nashville. It eventually peaked at #46 on the U.S. Billboard Country Airplay chart that same year.

After the single fizzled out on the country charts, Chris trashed the album that song was supposed to be on and got to work on his now-legendary record, Traveller. I think we at least deserve to hear that unnamed record one day, too, though.

Chris put out Traveller in May of 2015, and in November of 2015, he took the country music world by storm when he appeared on CMA Awards with Justin Timberlake to sing “Tennessee Whiskey”. The rest, as they say, is history.

It’s fun to hear this song from a female perspective, and obviously she’s not Chris Stapleton, but I think Meg nailed it, staying true to the original by highlighting the timelessness and beauty of the stunning song.

Now we just need these two to get together for a performance… now that I think about it, actually, this song really could be spectacular as a duet and I think we deserve that, right?

A girl can dream…
