I can feel the goosebumps and raised hair just from watching this…
There’s an old saying that bad weather makes for good fishing, and while I think there’s some truth to that, it’s not always advisable to head out onto an open body of water when a storm rolls in. For starters, depending on how large the lake or river or ocean you’re on is, the waves could get rough enough to toss you around and wreak your craft. Not good.
Also, you could get absolutely soaked, ruin some of your gear, and still come away skunked because you can’t get baits where you want them in the water. Not good either. Or, as we see in this video, your life could literally flash before your eyes when a bolt of electricity comes shooting down at you from the heavens.
Two young men were out fishing when the skies darkened and a storm started rolling through, but as 20-somethings tend to do, they waved it off as nothing and kept fishing, a decision that almost turned deadly.
They were recording with a GoPro and it captured a moment of pure terror when a bolt of lightning struck the water just to the side of one of the angler’s kayaks seemingly out of nowhere, the flash of heat and crack of sound filling the air. Obviously, he was shocked (pun intended) but fortunately all seemed to end well as he didn’t actually get hit and wasn’t injured or worse.
Safe to say, I’d bet these two got out of there as quickly as possible…
I get that people will do crazy things in hopes of catching a few fish, heck I’ve been there myself more than a few times, but let this be a lesson to all of us not to push things too far… It’s just not worth it.
