Happy Birthday, Brad Pitt.
Today, the 60 year old (oof…) actor celebrates another year around the sun. While some folks know Pitt for his famed roles in movies like Fight Club, Deadpool, or Ocean’s Eleven, the country music collective knows Pitt probably best for his name being mentioned in “That Don’t Impress Me Much.”
Shania Twain made a buck or two off the actor’s name in the line of the song, “So you’re Brad Pitt, that don’t impress me much.”
The line soon became an infamous part of the 1997 track, and people soon thought it was a dig at Pitt. While Twain came clean in 2017 to Billboard Magazine, it had nothing to do with Pitt’s looks or personality.
“You want to know the truth about this story? I’ve never told this before. I’m going to say it now.
I remember I had a girl friend visiting me and it was near Christmas and we were baking cookies. I was writing this album and there was a scandal of [Pitt] and Gwyneth [Paltrow] where there was naked photos of him [in Playgirl magazine, which Pitt later successfully sued for publishing the paparazzi photos]. And this was like all the rage. I just thought ‘I don’t know what all the fuss is about.’ I’m like, well that don’t impress me much, I mean what is all the fuss.
We see people naked every day. That’s really what I thought. I wasn’t picking on Brad Pitt. But that was just the association in that moment and things we make fusses about and whatever. Of course, it could have been any gorgeous guy.”
While the mystery wasn’t revealed as to why Twain chose him till 20 years after the fact, which I am sure Pitt was kept up at night a few times thinking about it, the two seem to have fun with the line now. People Magazine posted today celebrating Pitt and some of his most significant cinematic accomplishments, and of course, Twain had to play into it a little.
Happy 60th birthday, Brad Pitt! To celebrate, we’re taking a trip down memory lane, recognizing the Hollywood star’s most iconic roles.
The magazine wrote in their Instagram caption, to which Twain responded.
“…that don’t impress me much, but HBD.”
She added a kissy face emoji to the end, letting viewers know it’s (hopefully) all still in good fun. The comment got many likes and replies from fans, who noted how funny it was.
