Cody Johnson doesn’t miss.

The Texas native released a fantastic album Leather earlier this year, but he also has one of the best country Christmas albums put out in recent memory called A Cody Johnson Christmas.

Released in 2021, it’s full of covers of Christmas classics like “Pretty Paper,” “White Christmas,” “Silent Night” and more.

And last night, CoJo sang tons of them for his CMT Presents: A Cody Johnson Christmas special, which included a perfect performance of Merle Haggard’s “If We Make It Through December.”

A solo write by Merle, the tune became one of the signature songs of his career, and peaked at#1 on the U.S. Hot Country Songs chart.

It was the lead single for his 1973 album Merle Haggard’s Christmas Present, and became the the title track to a non-Christmas album four months later.

While not technically a full-fledged Christmas song, many country artists tend to break it out this time of year (for obvious reasons), and CoJo’s version will always be one of the best:
