Cody Jinks Brings New Single “Sober Thing” To The Stage For Debut Live Performance

Nothing hits the feeling of taking a new song to the stage for the first time.

Cody Jinks has done it again with the release of his latest single, “Sober Thing.” The brutally honest song from Jinks reflects on his journey with sobriety and the feeling of spiraling out of control.

“I wrote ‘Sober Thing’ right after we finished the ‘Mercy’ album. I was giving up a twenty-plus-year affair with whiskey, and every word of that song is true. I don’t remember writing some of my biggest songs, but I damn sure remember writing that one.”

Jinks said, reflecting on the single.

After fans’ positive feedback on the single, Jinks was ready to take it to the main stage and debut the song while on tour.

“So we just released a new single last week called the “Sober Thing,” and it’s going to be on the new record as well. You know it had been a while since we had come out with like a tear-jerking old-school country drinkin’ song. But I think we’ve got it on this one.”

He says to the crowd as he introduces the single. Without skipping a beat, he starts strumming a guitar into the opening of the track. The spotlight shines on just Jinks as he strums his guitar and sings the melancholy lyrics about struggling with over-serving yourself.

Right before the first chorus, a second spotlight shines on the steel guitar player as the twangy licks accompany the acoustic guitar. After the first verse and chorus are completed, the entire band joins in, and the track is amped up a notch.

“I started in the first place
The numbin’ just fueled me for the runnin’ away from the pain
And I’m closer to the messed up than the sober thing…”

Jinks’ vocals are spot on, and the video production is crystal clear, making viewers feel as though they are in the crowd watching the concert themselves.

The crowd roars in the background upon the song’s completion, and you can tell that Jinks is happy with the feedback from the audience. “Sober Thing” will have a long future on the setlist for Jinks.

With two new singles this year from Jinks, fans will be getting much more music from the Texas native soon with the announcement of his new album, Change The Game.

“You’ve been waiting a LONG time for this. Our new album, ‘CHANGE THE GAME,’ drops on March 22, 2024. This is the most open and honest record I’ve ever recorded, I laid everything out.”

Jinks announced the tracklist for the album along with a new string of tour dates, and I am so excited to hear the studio versions of the new songs. I am confident they will sound just as good on stage.
