When it comes to my all-time favorite Johnny Cash songs, “God’s Gonna Cut You Down.”

The song was released on Cash’s American V: A Hundred Highways album in 2006, three years after his passing.

“God’s Gonna Cut You Down” is a traditional folk song that was first recorded by the Golden Gate Quartet in 1946, and first issued by the Jubalaires in 1947, and is a stark warning to sinners, including midnight riders, long-tongue liars, gamblers, and back biters, relaying the message that God is gonna “cut you down” at some point.

Needless to say, it’s a deep song that will strike the fear of God into your eyes, and Cash’s haunting version is unmatched.

Not to mention, the music video is bada** in itself, featuring a ton of celebrities like Travis Barker, Kanye West, Kid Rock, Kris Kristofferson, Justin Timberlake, Sheryl Crow, Woody Harrelson, Chris Rock, and more.

With that being said, The Voice contestant BIAS decided to take on the challenge of covering “God’s Gonna Cut You Down” in last night’s episode, but with his own little soul, hard rock twist. The Tennessee native showed off his impressive vocal range from the get-go with this one, hitting several high notes in the opening lines of the song.

It got a little squirrely in the verses, but nevertheless, his hard rock rendition of the song, as the whole crowd was on their feet.
