Blackberry Smoke are back with a new single from their forthcoming album, Be Right Here, slated for a February release. The third single, “Hammer And The Nail,” impresses after the strong releases of “Dig A Hole” and “Little Bit Crazy.”
“Hammer And The Nail” highlights the quintessential Blackberry Smoke sound. Written by frontman Charlie Starr and longtime songwriting collaborator Keith Nelson, this single proves these two are songwriting genius when put together.
Charlie Starr notes that this song is for those who feel they might have been dealt a sh*tty hand of cards.
“This guy is thinking the deck is definitely stacked against him, and maybe his father’s choices have a hand in that… so his only choice is to be hard as nails if he’s gonna make his way.”
With the lyrics highlighting the grit that this man has, he feels as though he is trying to be nailed by society as it represents the hammer, but he is determined to make his way.

Sometimes you’re the nail
Like my Daddy before me
This is where the apple fell
Beatin the odds and comin’ up roses
Ain’t my story to tell

The messaging of this single follows what Starr hopes is portrayed throughout their next album: reminding people to be present and live authentically. The accompanying music video of “Hammer And The Nail” highlights vintage film aesthetic clips of the band out on the road. It is fitting for the group, considering they tour non-stop and recently announced their international 2024 Be Right Here Tour.
