What do I need to do to make this happen…

In in a wide-ranging interview with The Hollywood Reporter ahead of the release of her first full-blown Rock & Roll album, Dolly Parton talked about some of the artists she’d hoped to feature that ultimately didn’t come to fruition.

She also talked about having Kid Rock on the tracklist, turning down the Super Bowl halftime show multiple times, and controversial songs like Jason Aldean’s “Try That In A Small Town.”

Dolly says she was actually supposed to have her friend Lionel Richie on the record, which features an all-star cast in artists like Elton John, Steve Perry, Sting and John Fogarty, just to name a few, in addition to wanting to work with Cher, Mick Jagger and even Ed Sheeran.

Unfortunately, it didn’t work out with a lot of them because of timing, and I was especially sad that she didn’t end up getting Mick on there, because I think they could’ve really come up with something special.

She had previously said she’d kick his “bony ass” if he didn’t do it, so he better watch his back now…

“Oh, I wanted him so bad. They were doing their own album. I did ‘(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction,’ but again, it was in the wrong key.

He said, ‘Let’s find another song,’ because he was going to do it with me or do something. I was working on stuff, and then we came up with a few things, but then I ran out of time and he was in the middle of recording and he was doing that secretly, that album.

We were in the same place at the same time, but I didn’t get him.”

Of singing with pop star Ed Sheeran, Dolly says they were also supposed to do something together, though they were working on their own albums at the same time, and she wanted to do a “beautiful love ballad” together:

“I would love to sing something with Ed Sheeran. I think our voices would be so beautiful together.

Same thing — when I was doing the album, he was working on his own album and had agreed to sing something with me, but we ran out of time.

If we did some beautiful love ballad, I think it would be incredible. The fact that he writes it and can play it — yeah, he’s amazing.”

But possibly the most intriguing part of the interview came when the country queen told The Hollywood Reporter that she’d actually “love” to do a whole album with the great Chris Stapleton:

“I’d love to do a whole album with Chris Stapleton. All those songs that we could kill it with. I love him.”

After hearing just part of their forthcoming duet of Bob Seger’s “Night Moves” I think it’s an absolute must one day…

Can you even imagine? It would be an all-time classic duo if I’ve ever heard of one… I 1000% need this to happen now.

But until that day (hopefully) comes eventually, I’m looking forward to hearing their aforementioned duet here soon, because the full album is due out everywhere on November 17th.
