The cowboy who can talk the talk AND walk the walk is giving a nod to his Lone Star roots on his newest single, “That’s Texas.”
The honky tonk, boot stompin’ song takes you straight to a dance floor with lyrics that will swing around your mind. The lighthearted, fun lyrics call out some of Texas’s greats like George Strait, Robert Earl Keen, Lone Star beer, and Texans’ tried and true sports team, the Dallas Cowboys (although let’s be honest… the Houston Astros have been MUCH better as of late).
“That’s Texas, home of George Strait the king Ain’t no such thing as chili with beans That’s Texas hot as a flattop griddle Ain’t got a band if ya ain’t got a fiddle That’s Texas with a capital T If I can’t go to Heaven, I got a Plan B And that’s Texas Yeah, that’s Texas…”
The single, written by Andy Sheridan, Wyatt McCubbin, and Erik Dylan, highlights Johnson’s twang and the familiar sound fans love from tracks like “Me and My Kind.” The hook in the chorus of ending up in Texas, if you don’t go to Heaven, is reminiscent of Tanya Tucker’s 1978 hit “Texas (When I Die),” but with a modern twist.
Turn this one all the way up today.
