It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to know that football players can get caught up in some serious emotion.
I mean, it’s a physical, violent, game that generally requires some killer instinct to be successful… tempers can flare in the heat of battle.
ESPECIALLY in a rivalry game, where things can get pretty ugly, both on and off the field.
With that being said, we saw this kind of situation play out after a game between Alabama State and Florida A&M.
After Alabama State took the loss to FAMU 23-10 this past Saturday, ASU player Jacob Freeman was videoed jawing with the FAMU crowd. It looks like it was taking everything in his power not to jump into the stands and finish business with the heckling FAMU fans.
That’s when you see a security guard step in between Freeman and the stands, and as he continues to jaw with the FAMU fans, Freeman then pops the security guard square in the face.
As ASU players walk over to the sideline and get ahold of Freeman, you can see the security guard clutching their nose and pointing towards Freeman.
You have to feel for the security guard in this situation, just doing their job and trying to keep things from really getting ugly.
Hopefully the security guard didn’t suffer any serious injuries, and needless to say, it’s a bad look for Jacob Freeman and the Alabama State football program in general, as they fall to 1-2 on the season.
He was quickly suspended from the team and his profile removed the team’s website roster. A representative from the school issued the following statement:
“We are aware of the incident that occurred last night following our game against Florida A&M University in Tallahassee involving an Alabama State University football student-athlete.
We do not condone the actions of the student-athlete, nor are the actions representative of the expectations set forth by the Athletic Department and our University.
There is zero tolerance for this type of behavior. The student-athlete has been suspended indefinitely from the football program, effective immediately.”
