It’s hard to beat this classic from Charlie Daniels Band.

Old clips from Austin City Limits will always be a favorite to watch. Something about hearing some of your favorite songs performed live on such a historic set makes it sound a little better.

Charlie Daniels is one of the many greats that have graced the Austin City Limits stage, leading to one of my favorite live performances out there of “Long Haired Country Boy” from 1976.

In the video shared by Circle All Access, you see Charlie, who was 40 at the time, decked out in his best western attire, rocking out on stage with his band.

I love this performance so much because you see Daniels loosen up as the song continues. He starts stoically singing the first verse, with the brim of his hat covering his eyes; he is in tune with each word he says.

After the second verse, you see him get more into a groove as he steps back to jam with his band. And when he returns to the mic, the crowd is going a little more, and he still keeps a serious face, belting out the song’s last verse.

The ’70s attire from this taping is killer. The green pearl snap, with his custom and leather vest. How can you not love it?

Not to mention the double drummers in his band. Only Charlie Daniels could pull that off in a country band at this time.

Charlie Daniels is the ultimate “Long Haired Country Boy.” Long live his legacy.
