If The Weathered Souls aren’t already on your radar, it’s time to change that.
The rock and roll band out of Greenville, Texas, recently put out their debut album Til the Morning Comes in April, and have been opening for the likes of some of the Lone Star state’s best, Whiskey Myers and Read Southall Band.
They have a heavy rock-leaning sound with a little bit of Texas country flair, which has been influenced by bands like AC/DC and other great rock bands and comes through very obviously in their music.
And today, we’re extremely pleased to premiere their new video for “Rolling Thunder,” a single from their aforementioned debut.
Holdyn Mason, lead guitar player for the band, says the song is about feeling lost and being pulled in a million different directions.
He likened that feeling to being on “a bad trip,” saying that’s where a lot of the inspiration came from during the writing process:
“This is a song that takes you to a time where you’re not quite sure where you are, (in life, physically, mentally, etc.) and there are outside influences pulling you in all these different directions. How can we get away? How can we get out?
We’ve all been there and this is what that song is about. Unfortunately for me when I was writing it I was in a bad place and it was as if I was stuck in a bad trip.”
Director Kaiser Cunningham says he’d always wanted to do a “trippy” video unlike what you see in many other country/southern rock music videos today, adding that he’s thrilled with how it turned out and that their unique approach paid off:
“I’ve always wanted to do a trippy concept that would disrupt what we would normally see in the country music/southern rock platform.
Everyone was locked in and was extremely trusting in the process even though some of the things I had them do felt stupid.
I’m very happy with how this turned out and I’m even more excited for the world to be fully introduced to this group of guys.”
Throughout the video that was filmed outside of Sante Fe, New Mexico, you see things come a bit more distorted, and the driving lead guitar adds such a fun, rocking element to frontman Brock Roggow’s strong vocals that I absolutely love.
