Did you know that Kenny Rogers had a new album coming out?
The country music icon passed away back in 2020 at the age of 81, but never-before-heard songs that were very personal to Rogers will release on June 2nd with the album Life Is Like A Song.
The album was executive produced by Rogers’ widow, Wanda Rogers, and will be ten songs in length. The first two singles, “I Wish It Would Rain” and “Love Is A Drug,” were released today, and duets with Dolly Parton, Jamie O’Neal, and Kim Keyes will also be included.
If you remember (who could forget?) the all time duet of Rogers and Parton singing “Islands In The Stream,” you should be excited about the duet between the two country music legends on Roger’s upcoming posthumous album.
The album is the first non-holiday album to be released under the Kenny Rogers name in more than 10 years. The new songs were recorded in between 2008 and 2011 and were recently curated by Roger’s wife.
Billboard provided a statement from Wanda Rogers regarding the project and how much the music means to herself and her family:
“I think the record is fabulous, and it is going to make Kenny so proud. These songs are such a beautiful reminder of his love ‘for the feelings a song can make’ for a person. He would often say that he wanted his songs to be ‘what every man wants to say, and every woman wants to hear.’
This is a very special record to me and our family because it really tells the story of our life together, and I feel his fans will also relate to it in a big way because it walks the listener through the seasons of life that we all experience in one way or another.”
As for what to expect from the songs themselves, Wanda went on to describe the emotional weight that the music holds and how she feels it fits perfectly into the Kenny Rogers catalogue:
“There is joy, there is love, there is family, there is uncertainty, there is pain, there is faith … it’s emotional and real.
This is the kind of music Kenny loved to make.”
The two singles that give us a glimpse into the personal, posthumous album are “Love Is A Drug” and a cover of The Temptations “I Wish It Would Rain.”
