Diplo Shares Video In The Studio With Sturgill Simpson Ahead Of “Use Me” Release

Coming soon…

Back in January, Diplo finally dropped the long anticipated Kodak Black and Koe Wetzel featured song “Wasted,” and I’ll admit, the song highly exceeded expectations, and I’m the last guy that generally enjoys country and rap thrown in together.

And on top of that, he recently announced that he’s dropping Diplo Presents Thomas Wesley: Chapter 2 – Swamp Savant on April 28th, the second installment to his 2020 album Diplo Presents Thomas Wesley Chapter 1: Snake Oil, which featured the likes of Morgan Wallen, Ben Burgess, Thomas Rhett, Orville Peck, Zac Brown, and a number of others.

He shared in an Instagram post:

“To prepare for this new Thomas Wesley project, I went back to my fathers house in Florida and I spent six months learnin guitar, gettin in touch with nature, working his boat when the shrimp were running on full moons at the trailer park.. then I went to Nashville and had to take out every manager and A&R out to dinner until my credit card was maxed.

I called every favor from my rapper friends (there wasn’t a lot that answered my calls) went to Kentucky and Texas and tracked down all the guys there and asked everyone to give me a chance and to be on my new project.

I looked back at my career and the things I learned as a songwriter.. then I researched every way I was good at breaking the rules in my career and tried some new tricks … spent two years going to Stagecoach undercover as an EDM DJ to figure out what people were into … I tried on a lot of cowboy hats.

I rode a lot of motorcycles and horses basically reflected on my whole life and career and connection with this music.. there was a lot.. it all started in the swamps I was raised in … This is the greatest single piece of work I’ve ever done, I can promise you that. Thomas Wesley: Chapter 2 – Swamp Savant… out April 28.”

And this past Saturday, he shared a clip for the upcoming project, featuring a new song titled “Use Me,” with Dove Cameron and someone named Johnny Blue Skies, and at the very end you can hear someone that sounds just like… Sturgill Simpson.

Through a little digging, we confirmed that Johnny Blue Skies was in fact the voice of Sturgill Simpson, but if there was any doubt before, we can erase it. Diplo teased another video on Twitter, and it’s indeed ol’ Sturgill in the studio.

In the short clip, which is sorta hidden between two pictures of Diplo and a woman naked in the water, can hear Stu sing the line:

“Arms that can hold you… that’s true.”

By God, it’s happening.

And this isn’t the first time Stu and Diplo have hung out either, as their friendship dates all the way back to 2017, when it sounded like Simpson hustled Diplo out of some money in a game of pool:

And back in 2018, Diplo confessed that he “tried to copy” Sturgill Simpson on his hit “Thunderclouds” which was released by the group LSD, a pop supergroup of sorts that features Diplo, Sia, and Labrinth.

Nevertheless, you best believe I’m gonna keep my eyes peeled for this one.
