Riley Green Shares His Distaste For Pickleball: “I Don’t Like Games Someone Less Athletic Than Me Can Beat Me In”

Pickleball is THE hot new sport taking the country by storm.

If you aren’t familiar with the sport, pickleball is a combination of tennis but played on a court half the size and wiffle ball. The quick-paced game focuses on angulated shots and quick back and forth between single players or doubles partners.

The sport has been prevalent among an older demographic for quite some time and is now starting to gain lots of headway with a younger crowd.

A lot of that can be attributed to restaurants popping up that act as pickleball oases as well. In short, amateur pickleball players can have a hell of a time while slamming a few beers.

Riley Green shared his view on the sport the other week on Barstool’s Bussin With The Boys podcast with Taylor Lewan and Will Compton.

Green, being a retired college football player, is very into sports. But given that it seems he spends most of his days now either hunting, spending in the studio, or most recently on tour with Luke Combs, I was surprised to hear he had some strong opinions about the up-and-coming sport.

Did not peg him as a pickleball guy.

“Here’s my problem with pickleball.”

He says in a viral clip from the podcast’s page.

“It’s the same problem I have with ping pong or pool, for that matter. It’s such a game of if you play it, you can be really good at it.

I don’t like games somebody less athletic than me can beat me in.”

He says he hates that someone looking nerdy can beat him and that someone like him, who could be a little taller or more in shape, has no athletic advantage in the game.

Granted, he’s like 6’4″ and built like a brick shit house, so it’s not hard to understand why he wants to play a sport where that gives him the competitive advantage. That being said, skill games like pool and darts and golf to an extent are exactly that… skill games. Athletic ability is only a small part of the equation.

But that being said, can’t disagree… pickleball is poor man’s tennis. No two ways around it.

The lesson learned is that if you’re looking to whoop up on Riley Green in an athletic setting, get really good at pickleball.

Riley recently teamed up with Justin Moore for the new song, “Everybody Get Along.”
