HBO To Release A Jason Isbell Documentary Titled ‘Jason Isbell: Running With Our Eyes Closed’

For a while now, Jason Isbell has been regarded as one of the greatest singer/songwriters in the business.

He and his band, the 400 Unit, are getting ready to drop their brand new album, Weathervanes, on June 9th, and ahead of the new album, fans are getting a little something more.

HBO has announced a brand new Jason Isbell documentary, titled Jason Isbell: Running With Our Eyes Closed, that will offer an in-depth look at the life of Jason Isbell, both inside and outside of the studio.

The documentary is slated to drop on Friday, April 7th, as it’s part of Bill Simmons’ Music Box Series, which has featured the likes of Morissette, DMX, and more in the past.

According to Billboardthe documentary will focus on the recording of Isbell’s 2020 Reunions album as well as delve into his personal life alongside his wife and fellow musician Amanda Shires, his childhood, early days with Drive-By Truckers, navigating the pandemic, and more.

The documentary features interviews with Isbell, Shires, and other musicians such as Chad Gamble, guitar player Sadler Vaden, Jimbo Hart, Derry DeBorja, Patterson Hood, producer Dave Cobb, and manager Traci Thomas.

Isbell discussed the new record in the official trailer as well, saying:

“I won’t be satisfied unless this album is an accurate representation of where I am as a person.”
