You can’t make this stuff up…
Nature is a wild place where the unexpected always seems to happen. And not just here in North America… all across the world it is the same.
Lions are one of the most notorious predators on the planet. They’re nicknamed t he King of the Jungle a good reason (although they don’t technically live in the jungle).
The are massive cats, with males reaching 10 feet long and up to 550 pounds. Females aren’t far off of that growing up to 9 feet long and up to 400 pounds.
The eat everything that gives them a chance to attack. Being the second largest cat in the world (right behind tigers) their diet requires them to eat 10 to 25 pounds of meat each day.
Lions, like many other predators have certain parts of the animal they prefer to eat first. Once they’ve taken enough of the legs and backside to neutralize the animal, the guts and intestines are generally the first area of intense feeding for lions. Those parts provide the most nutrients essential to their survival.
Don’t be mistaken, they will eat the whole animal though.
At the end of the day, they are just giant killer kitty cats roaming the African plains. And while a sense of awe, terror and wonder can come from watching them in their natural habitat, sometimes it’s absolute hilarity.
Especially when cubs are involved…
This lioness and her cub are seen chowing down on a fresh buffalo kill.
While the rest of the family chows down near the stomach and guts, one cub has its head shoved right up the arse of the buffalo. Considering what they eat first, this isn’t super surprising, however, maybe try coming around front like mom?
This cub found out like many other young creatures, sometimes what goes in, doesn’t come out.
The cub is seen struggling trying to come back out to the light of day. The cub pushes and twists but can’t seem to pop its head back out. Naturally, the poor fella is probably running out of air in there, however with his family munching on the stomach from the other side, it’s only a matter of time before his little head pokes free.
And that’s exactly what happened.
Other lions, a bit perplexed at what is going on, watch as the cub struggles so hard it tires out. They don’t seem to worry much and just leave him be.
Eventually, as they ate their way through the buffalo’s guts, the little lion cub was able to free itself and partake in the rest of the meal.
They say curiosity killed the cat… and this fellas was nearly living proof.
