Theo James, who has made a lot of noise for his role in the second season premiere of HBO’s White Lotus, had one hilarious announcement he had to make while making an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon…
No, it’s not any massive news about the show, just one secret he had to clear the air on…
And it’s that the massive penis for a nude scene on the show, was completely prosthetic.
Jimmy paid him a bit of congratulations for the size of his seemingly massive member, but James hilariously confessed that to Fallon that it was fake.
It’s not uncommon for actors to wear fake body parts for nude scenes, or even use a body double, but James never expected to be handed this hog from the props department:
“The truth of it was, you go into these scenes and you have a conversation with the director and the producers and they go, ‘Okay, for this, we’re going to use a prosthetic.’
And you say, ‘Okay, that sounds good.’”
The scene they’re discussing is the one where James is changing into a bathing suit while Harper (Aubry Plaza) watches in the bathroom.
Needless to say, viewers watching were genuinely impressed and it quickly became a talking point on the interwebs… which was exactly what James wanted to avoid.
He continued:
“I said, ‘Honestly, I just want it not to be distracting.’
‘He needs to be Regular Joe, ’cause the scenes … you know, it’s not about the pee-pee, it’s about power play and sex.
It’s about whether he did it deliberately or whether it was an accident and what that means and all that kind of stuff.’ And she says, ‘I got you. I got you. Regular Joe.’”
So when he showed up on set to film the scene, he was greeted with Regular Joe XXL:
“We get to set and she’s got, like, a hammer or something. I mean, it’s bigger than that. It’s like she stole it off a donkey in the field. The thing is ginormous. And me and the director, Mike White, are sitting there going, ‘That’s … average, is it?’”
He joked that he and White had to immediately call their spouses to apologize.
“It was nine inches flat and about four inches wide. We were like, ‘What the hell is that.’”
James also mentioned that the scene was even toned down from the original version:
“The original derivation of it, it’s kind of full-frontal, if you know what I mean. We shot that and it felt too much, too aggressive.
What we came to is a bit more opaque, and that’s exactly what Mike does so well. You’re never sure a hundred percent of the characters’ intentions.”
