This bear was on some thin ice… literally.
It happens every year, animals think the ice is good and try to make their way straight across something only to end up in the freezing cold waters below.
Often times, that can be the end for them, and a number of chilling photos have been captured of animals such as foxes completely frozen in a block of ice. However, animals like bears can usually get themselves out. Bears are well-adapted to the harsh climates that they call home.
Nevertheless, black bears are generally a pretty funny animal. They always seem to find a way to get themselves into trouble.
The group of people here are having a gathering at an Airbnb in Lake Tahoe, California. My first guess is that they have probably have some food laid out and the bear caught a scent downwind of the cabin.
Black bears can sniff out a meal up to a mile away. Humans often times make getting said meal, easy for them.
When the cold weather hits, they need to pack on their last few pounds to get ready for a long winter with very minimal food if any at all. The chance to snag an easy meal from people means the possibility of using little energy to get high fat foods. A bear’s dream.
This fella decided to save even more energy and take the short route. Straight across what appears to be a rather shallow waterbody with a thin layer of ice on it.
As he starts out, you hear the ice crack. It’s enough to stop the bear for a second. As he steps again he goes straight down through with the whole crowd of people watching.
He’s able to actually pull himself out of the hole and make his way carefully back to shore.
That was a close one.
I kinda hope this fella got the meal he was after, after going through that torture.
