Throwback To Sturgill Simpson Performing “Long White Line” On Letterman Back In 2015

Let me set the scene….it’s February 12, 2015, and it’s been 8 months since Sturgill dropped Metamodern Sounds in Country Music. After a long day, you put on the Late Show with David Letterman, and you watch Sturgill Simpson lay down one hell of a performance.

Metamodern Sounds in Country Music was Sturgill’s critically acclaimed album sophomore album, produced by Dave Cobb.

The album debuted at number 59 on the Billboard 200 chart and 11 on the Top Country Albums chart, then rose to number 8. Not particularly impressive and yet, the album went on to put Sturgill Simpson on the map, and is widely regarded as one of the best country albums of the past 20 years.

The lyrics are raw, and the title of the record paid homage to Ray Charles’ Modern Sounds in Country and Western Music while still giving enough room for Sturgill to make a signature sound for himself.

When the album was first released, Simpson and his band did some further promotion for the album, which included performing on Letterman.

Seven years since this video performance, and it still gives me chills (could have something to do with the fact this is one of my favorite tunes off the album too).

Sturgill Simpson knows how to put on one hell of a performance, and this one is no exception.

Check it out yourself.
