If you haven’t gotten on The Panhandlers train yet, it’s time to get your ass going.
The Texas country supergroup is comprised of Josh Abbott, John Baumann, William Clark Green, and Flatland Cavalry frontman Cleto Cordero, which is already enough to open your eyes right there.
Not to mention, their songs will have even the most uptight of city folk wishing they were roaming under the wide open skies of West Texas. Seriously, when you listen to their music, you can literally picture the scenes unfolding in your head like a movie.
The group released their debut self-titled album back in 2020, and the project lived up to the high anticipation that was surrounding it beforehand.
However, the group had been relatively quiet over the past couple of years, and understandably so, considering each artist in the group has their own careers to focus on.
With that being said, the group released their first single in over two years last month, titled “Where Cotton Is King,” and it was only inevitable that a new project was coming our way sometime soon.
And now, the day has come.
The group announced a four-song EP, titled West Texas Is The Best Texas, set to drop this upcoming Friday.
Josh Abbott expressed his excitement for the upcoming release:
“This EP listens like a West Texas ethnography allowing both those familiar and those who have never been to laugh at the sense of humor shared in the panhandle and western Texas.
Where good hearted jokes are made about electric cars & Austin, and a tip of the cap is shown to the cotton farmers & wildcatters that carry on the commodity legacies of the land.”
Each song tells a story about what makes West Texas unique, setting it apart from not only the rest of the Lone Star State, but the rest of the world.
Cleto Cordero also shared:
“I feel there’s something for everyone. ‘Where Cotton is King’ for the rockers and headbangers, ‘The Chilton Song’ for those in need of a chillout session, ‘Midland Jamboree’ is a charmer and last, but certainly not least, there’s the title track, which makes you wanna crank the stereo to 11, roll down the windows, hit the blacktop and resist the temptation to point the car west – that is what Home sounds like to me!”
