Will Riley be on the silver screen soon?
Over the past two years, Riley Green has cemented himself as a certified star on all fronts. From a pure music perspective, he’s grabbed three straight #1s with the likes of his appearance on Ella Langley’s “you look like you love me,” his second collaboration with the fellow Alabama native, “Don’t Mind If I Do” and his steamy ballad, “Worst Way.” Additionally, he’s stirred the pot on social media a countless number of times thanks to seemingly never-ending dating rumors surrounding him and various artists, such as Langley, Megan Moroney and recently, his “Go Again” duet partner, Hannah McFarland. Undoubtedly, Green has quickly become one of the biggest stars in country music lately. With that being said, however, it seems as if he’s not just limiting himself to music in the future.
Earlier in the year, the Alabama native made his acting debut on Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone spinoff series, Marshals, appearing in four episodes alongside Luke Grimes back in April. Though Marshals, as a whole, didn’t receive as much love compared to other entries in the Yellowstone franchise, fans of the “I Wish Grandpas Never Died” singer absolutely loved him venturing into acting.
It seems as if Green himself was also a fan of the whole process, telling Entertainment Tonight that it was an incredibly fulfilling process that he was proud of.
“There was something really fulfilling about being able to go and accomplish something in a window of time. I love being on tour, but that never really ends. The tour might change names every year, but it’s just a constant. We’re always going to be playing shows and traveling around.”
Since then, he’s also been booked for not one but two iterations of NBC’s The Voice, serving as a judge for Season 30 of the standard version and the newly-announced The Voice: Celebrity, which will “see actors, musicians, influencers, athletes, comedians, and reality television stars competing instead of undiscovered talent.”
In case you thought the “Worst Way” singer’s plate was already full, with an upcoming album, That’s Just Me, slated for a September 18th release, two seasons of The Voice and a standard touring schedule, it appears that he’s looking to add to it incredibly soon.
In an interview on TalkShop Live promoting That’s Just Me, Green was asked again about his role on Marshals and his decision to venture into the acting world. Here, he’d explain that he wanted to challenge himself with something completely different at this point in his career. Additionally, he’d point to the impact the Yellowstone franchise — something we dubbed the “Yellowstone Effect” — has had on many country artists’ careers over the past decade.
“I really enjoyed the process of trying to get into character and figure out what would this person be doing and how would they do it. It was a real challenge at a point in my career when I feel like I needed one. I wanted something that was different and wanted to learn new.
It’s such a great tie-in with country music and those ‘Yellowstone’ shows in general — all the spin-off shows. It’s such a great way for a lot of artists to get discovered. There’s a lot of artists that you hear their music on those shows.”
He’d follow that up by confirming that he’s been actively searching for new roles and reading new scripts for future projects in the future.
“It was something I really enjoyed. I could see myself doing a lot more of that. I’ve actually been looking at some other roles.”
Finally, Green would reveal his dream role. A bit unsurprisingly, given his background as a former Division 1 quarterback at Jacksonville State, the 37-year-old singer/songwriter said he wants to star in a sports movie. Additionally, he’d toss around the idea of a western as well, which only makes sense.
“Probably a classic sports movie remake like ‘Bull Durham’ or ‘Varsity Blues’ — a ‘Field of Dreams’ remake. What about a western?”
At this rate, it feels like it’s just a matter of time before we see Green back on either the televison of movie screen. Though I’d imagine it will take some time given his venture into The Voice, chances are we’ll see the “Think As You Drunk” singer booked in another role at some point next year.
