Bunnie Xo is never going back to married life, and recently said in an interview that she’s thriving as a New York Times bestseller, a podcaster, and someone that has a movie about them on the way.
Before we get into Bunnie Xo’s recent comments about “loving life,” we have to revisit the shocking revelation that came back in June. That was when we learned that Jelly Roll filed for divorce from his wife Bunnie Xo after a decade of marriage. The petition for divorce was filed by the rapper-turned-country-artist, whose real name is Jason DeFord, against his wife, whose real name is Alisa DeFord, back on May 18.
It was reportedly a “mutual decision” and described as a “private family matter.”
Whiskey Riff obtained a copy of the divorce complaint that was filed by the “Save Me” singer, which revealed that the couple separated on May 9, a week and a half before the request for a divorce was filed. Jelly Roll cited “irreconcilable differences” as the grounds for the divorce, which in Tennessee is a no-fault grounds for divorce that means that the parties agree on the terms of the separation.
The couple were married back in 2016 before renewing their vows in 2023, and have been incredibly transparent about their relationship, including their struggles along the way. They were in the middle of trying to have a baby together through IVF, and in the interview below, she somewhat dodged a question about whether or not her and Jelly Roll are still working on that together (while also confirming she still wants to have a baby).
So now, it’s been around three months since the celebrity couple split, and while Jelly Roll has been rather quiet about the split, the host of the The Dumb Blonde Podcast says she’s doing great. She told TODAY that she couldn’t be doing any better when hosts of the third hour of the morning show, Jenna Bush Hager and Sheinelle Jones, asked Bunnie Xo how she was holding up following her divorce from Jelly Roll.
“Ladies, they should have never let me back out in the streets because I love it here. I love it here and I’m never going back… I feel like us as women, we put ourselves aside so much for partners, friends, kids, and it’s like we don’t pour into ourselves. And sometimes you need to be selfish, and you need to pour into yourself.
And I just hope my journey can show people like, ‘Hey, you know what? It doesn’t matter how hard of a situation you’re going through, you’re going to get through that. You’re going to rise up and you’re going to be an even better version of yourself.'”
Of course, Bunnie has a lot of things going for her, both to keep her busy during the divorce process and to help her move on afterwards. She’s an in-demand celebrity with a ton of opportunities, whereas I think the average person might not have such a bright light at the end of their divorce tunnel. All that to say, if you’re thinking about getting a divorce, I wouldn’t necessarily look a Bunnie’s situation and think “that could be me!” Just a word of caution… take it or leave it.
But one of the ways Bunnie Xo wants to be a better version of herself? Going to college. She also revealed that she was accepted into Arizona State University, and is going back to school to study something that’s close to her heart: How women’s hormones are affected by IVF.
So add that to the list of things that are really working out for Bunnie Xo. It’s obviously been a tough year for the now ex-wife of Jelly Roll, but she maintains that a ton of great things are currently in the works for her:
“I know when something like that, that’s deeply personal happens, it’s beautifully tragic, but at the same time there’s always a silver lining and there’s always something better to look forward to. I mean, there’s so much more to talk about with me especially and with women than their past levers and people in their lives.
And I mean my book, my movie, this new deal that I just signed with Audacy. There’s just so much… I’ve got my smile back. I’m having the freaking time of my life and I’m just thriving. And I never thought that it would turn out to be such a blessing, but it’s such a blessing and I’m so thankful.”
