It’s happening, people…
Yellowstone Season 5 is officially underway, and thanks to Kelly Reilly (the actress who plays Beth Dutton), fans now have a look at the titles of a few of the episodes.
Does that mean all that much? Not really, but it’s great to see it all coming together.
Kelly took to Instagram to share a picture of her batch of scripts, and from the looks of it, it appears as though she has Episodes 1-6 in hand, ready to film.
Series creator, writer and director, Taylor Sheridan, is known to keep his actors on a “need to know” basis, so I wouldn’t be surprised if these are the only scripts she has right now (and perhaps Episode 7 as well).
So, without further ado, here’s the titles that we know:
Season 5: Episode 1 – “One Hundred Years Is Nothing”
Season 5: Episode 2 – “The Sting of Wisdom”
Season 5: Episode 4 – “Horses in Heaven”
Season 5: Episode 5 – “Watch ‘Em Ride Away”
Season 5: Episode 6 – “Cigarettes, Whiskey, a Meadow and You”
She also shared a few photos from around the set and yeah, Montana is beautiful:
Yellowstone Season 5 is set to premiere on November 13th.
The season will expand to 14 episodes, split into two installments of 7 episodes, as opposed to the standard 10 episodes of the first four seasons.
Much like Season 4 was used to introduce fans to 1883, and set the table for the Four Sixes spinoff, Season 5 will do the same, and be used to launch several new shows from Taylor Sheridan.
Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren are set to star in it appears the next prequel series titled, 1923, which is set to premiere in December on Paramount+.
According to Deadline, no other information about the new prequel was shared, except for the following statement:
“‘1923’ focuses on the Dutton family’s next two generations as they struggle to survive historic drought, lawlessness, and prohibition, and an epidemic of cattle theft; all battled beneath the cloud of Montana’s great depression, which preceded the nation by almost a decade.”
1923, of course, is just one of nine shows Sheridan has either already began, or is about to start working on, joining Mayor of Kingstown, Lioness, Tulsa King, 1883: The Bass Reeves Story, Land Man, and of course Yellowstone.
Not to mention there’s a Yellowstone 6666 project in the works.
Kelly Reilly Says Beth Dutton Will “Quietly Destroy” Summer Higgins
It’s no secret that Kelly Reilly’s character Beth Dutton will go to every extreme possible, in order to keep the Dutton name and the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch alive and well.
At all costs, she simply wants to make her father John happy, and she refuses to take any prisoners along the way with no regrets, and that even includes her adopted brother Jamie.
Every fan of Yellowstone knows the deep-rooted hate Beth has for Jamie, as he sent her to an abortion clinic that sterilizes their patients, and she’s now no longer able to be a biological mother because of him.
We saw the hate in full force at the end of season four, when Beth blackmailed Jamie, and forced him to murder his own biological father in cold blood (he deserved it, though).
Since the beginning of the show, Beth has made a ton of enemies along the way, but there may not be anybody else she hates more than Jamie, and that’s starting to become very clear.
However, in a recent interview with TV Line, Kelly Reilly admitted that there may be another character on the show who Beth has even more disdain for than Jamie…
And it’s none other than Summer Higgins, the animal rights activist who John becomes shockingly acquainted with.
Reilly explained:
“Beth wants her father to be happy. She just has no respect for this particular woman. She sees Summer as an enemy, someone who has absolutely no respect for their way of life.
(She and her fellow protesters just come in with this very basic understanding, thinking that (ranchers) are all just rednecks.
Beth isn’t going to walk her through it. She’s just going to quietly destroy her. And it’s so easy for Beth to do that. We know it’s so easy for her to do that.
That capacity for violence and cruelty that Beth has in her is quite terrifying, actually.”
We all saw Beth and Summer’s wild first interaction, when John brings her to the ranch for the first time. Needless to say, it felt like two polar opposite personalities clashing.
With that being said, Reilly admitted that Taylor Sheridan got a kick out of the opposing personalities of the two:
“I think Taylor has a lot of fun with that. I’m not vegan, but I’m vegetarian and very much about animal welfare. I care about the same things Summer cares about.
Of course, Taylor does, too. But he puts Beth in the position of being the antithesis of all of that. And she does it just to get a reaction, to provoke.”
Kelly Reilly Say Disappointing Her Father Was A “Heartbreaking” Scene
One of the most interesting character dynamics in all of Taylor Sheridan’s hit Paramount Network series, Yellowstone, is the relationship between Beth Dutton and her father John Dutton (Kevin Costner).
And perhaps the most emotional scene in all Yellowstone Season Four was when John confronts Beth about getting Summer Higgins arrested.
Long story short… Beth tells her father he needs to get laid. He gets down and dirty with some hippie environmentalist chick, Beth threatens her with a kitchen knife and then sets her up to get arrested during a protest.
John, livid that Beth would do something that “cruel,” reminds Beth:
“We don’t kill sheep, we kill wolves.”
He then drops the bomb on her:
“I never thought I’d feel this way about you but you really disappointed me, honey… I never thought I’d say that about you.”
He ends the conversation by telling her she should maybe think about moving out.
Pretty savage…
But in a recent interview with TVLine, Kelly Reilly (Beth) opens up about the emotional episode alongside director Stephen Kay:
“That scene was heartbreaking for me. Beth doesn’t often come up against her father. She’s very obedient with him.
So to have him say he’s disappointed in her… she never thought she’d hear that from him. She’d rather have been punched.”
Director Stephen Kay also weighed in on the scene:
“Everything Beth did, she did for the right reason as far as she was concerned. So it was pretty easy to tell Kelly, ‘Play these circumstances, and your heart will break.’
When you have two really good actors (like her and Kevin Costner), the goal is to put them in a situation and let them go.”
Reilly added:
“When you have a role that means so much to you, you want people to understand her. So I’m always trying to connect to the part of Beth that isn’t just brutal.
In this specific scene, it wasn’t a big reach to find that (vulnerability). Knowing that this would be like a knife to her heart, I wanted the audience to feel that.”
“(John asking Beth to move out) is sort of the ultimate rejection. Her whole life is sacrificed for him.”
It’s a poignant scene, one that really changed the tone of the season and will ultimately set the table for things to come in Season 5.
And speaking of Season 5, the team is already in production, the cast is back on set, and we’re looking at a November 13th.
