Josh Turner Covers The Hell Out Of George Jones’ “He Stopped Loving Her Today” Back In 2006

It’s no secret that Josh Turner has one of the best, and definitely the deepest, voices in all of modern day country music.

We were all spinning his hits “Would You Go With Me,” “Your Man,” “Why Don’t We Just Dance,” “Long Black Train,” and more in the mid 2000s like there was no tomorrow, keeping that traditional old school country music feel in a time when pop was slowly beginning to integrate into the genre.

The South Carolina native’s 2006 Your Man was his most successful project to date, debuting at number one on the Top Country Albums chart, and number two on the Billboard 200 chart, and it was safe to say that he had officially become a household name across America.

With that being said, I found this hidden gem of Turner playing one of the greatest country songs of all time back in 2006, and it was no other than George Jones’ 1980 hit “He Stopped Loving Her Today.”

“He Stopped Loving Her Today” can be credited as the song that rejuvenated Jones’ country music career, as he was on the brink of one of his lowest points of his life, struggling with drug and alcohol abuse, and his divorce from the love of his life Tammy Wynette.

Live from the Cracker Barrel Country Songs Of The Year Concert, only 28-years-old at the time, Turner puts together a masterful rendition of Jones’ smash hit while he was on top of the country music world.
