American Idol Contestant Wows Judges With Powerful Rendition Of Ashley McBryde’s “Girl Goin’ Nowhere”

Needless to say, the country music field in this year’s American Idol is pretty stout.

I’ll admit, I’ve never been much for singing shows, but the talent in this year’s show makes it hard to avoid, and I keep finding myself taking a peak at what future stars we may have in mainstream country music.

The latest I’ve discovered is Huntergirl (I need to know the backstory on this name), a 23-year-old music therapist from Winchester, Tennessee who plays regularly on Broadway in Nashville.

She decided to sing Ashely McBryde’s hit “Girl Goin’ Nowhere” at the Showstopper Performance level of the show…

And she absolutely killed it.

She had a tearjerker moment in the middle of the song, where she found herself tearing up at all the times she thought she wasn’t good enough to make it, but had somebody telling her she was.

And boy, not only is she good enough, Luke Bryan stated in the middle of the song:

“She’s the best country singer I’ve heard.”

Katy Perry also said:

“If she plays her cards right, she could win it.”

Keep an eye out for this one, she’s in the top 24, and is making a strong case for the best country music contestant.

And of course, Ashley’s version:
