Cody Johnson Becomes Third Performer Ever To Sellout Opening Night Of The Houston Rodeo

Cody Johnson country music

If you weren’t convinced Cody Johnson is a household name yet for country music fans, think again…

Because the man has become only the third performer ever to sell out RodeoHouston on opening night.

And the company he’s in?

Garth Brooks sold out in 2018, and George Strait did the same the year before.

Johnson kicked off the 90th Anniversary of the Houston Livestock and Rodeo Show, after a long layoff from 2020 to 2021 due to the heat of the pandemic. The performance marked his fourth appearance at RodeoHouston, with his first coming in 2017 after filling in for Old Dominion.

He weighed in on the big-time achievement:

“Last night was a historical night for myself as well as Rodeo Houston; sold-out opening day!

I can’t thank everyone enough for coming out and showing support to me and my band. CAN’T WAIT TO DO IT AGAIN NEXT YEAR!”

In all honesty though, can you think of a guy more fitting to sellout RodeoHouston? Not named George Strait?

Johnson is a former bull rider in his own right, and is a born and bred Texan from Sebastapol, Texas, not all that far from Houston.

Couldn’t be more deserving, I’d say.

Speaking of, check out the man’s jaw dropping RodeoHouston performance of “Dear Rodeo” from back in 2019:
