A growing online petition is looking to address the all-to-common issue of lonely, unwrapped weiners.
It’s grilling season, so everybody has probably already had to deal with the age-old problem of buying a pack of hot dog buns and then having leftover hot dogs because they’re sold in different quantities. You buy a pack of 10 hot dogs but then your only option is to buy buns in a pack 8, so you’re just left with those extra hot dogs to either eat on a piece of white bread, throw away, or if you’re like me, toss to your dog.
Well Heinz wants to change that.
The ketchup company has started a petition on Change.org calling on “Big Bun” and “Big Weiner” companies to agree on a number and sell their products in equal quantities. You buy 10 hot dogs, you get 10 buns.
According to the petition:
“10 Wieners. 10 Buns. It’s time.
Hot dog wieners come in packs of 10. Hot dog buns come in packs of 8. WHY?! As the condiment that has been bringing foods together for over 150 years, we’ve decided enough is enough. That’s why we started the Heinz Hot Dog Pact. We’re calling on Big Bun and Big Wiener companies to find the answer to this hot dog packaging mismatch, once and for all. We need your signatures more than ever. Let’s change hot dog history together.”
I mean, it just makes sense.
The petition has already collected almost 25,000 signatures, so it seems like this is a cause that people are ready to get behind.
And the people in the comments of the petition have strong feelings on the matter:
“The travesty of countless lonely wieners who will never know the warm embrace of a bun must stop. Plus, dogs are getting fat every where on those rogue wieners. Save your pet.”
“Every wiener deserves a bun.”
“There’s literally nothing more important than this going on in the world right now. Stand up for what you believe in.”
There’s not much that unites us these days, but it seems like this might be one issue that we can all agree on.
So Big Bun and Big Weiner, if you’re reading this, let’s make this happen.
It’s long past time for hot dogs and buns to come in equal packs.
