Remembering The Great Chris Cornell With Cody Jinks & Paul Cauthen’s Cover Of “Black Hole Sun”

Four years ago…

Four years ago today, May 18th, 2017, the music world said goodbye to a rock legend in that of Chris Cornell. The Soundgarden and Audioslave frontman took his own life in a hotel room after a show in Detroit, but his legacy will continue to live on through the art he created.

So in honor of Chris today, we’re taking a look back at one of my (and many others’) all-time favorites.

“Black Hole Sun”

A 5-hour tribute concert was held in his honor in 2019 featuring Foo Fighters, Chris Stapleton, Brandi Carlile, Adam Levine, Miley Cyrus, Ryan Adams, Metallica and a ton more, but there was another tribute performance that wasn’t part of that concert special.

Cody Jinks and Paul Cauthen.

Shortly after his death, Cody and Paul released this powerful tribute performance honoring this truly inspirational artist, one who influenced many across all genres of music.

“Got with Paul Cauthen to celebrate the life and music of Chris Cornell. I’m heartbroken along with many thousands of people who woke up today and realized Cornell is still gone.”

Here’s to the late, great Chris Cornell, your impact on music cannot be understated.
