‘The Ellen DeGeneres’ Show Is Officially Ending After 19 Seasons, Says It’s Not Because Of Toxic Workplace Allegations

After nineteen seasons, Ellen DeGeneres appears to officially be calling it quits with her TV show, Ellen.

She plans to cut it off in 2022, and though sad, she’s ready for something new. She had this to say in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter:

“When you’re a creative person, you constantly need to be challenged… and as great as this show is, and as fun as it is, it’s just not a challenge anymore.”

This isn’t the first time she’s considered ending the show, as her wife, Portia de Rossi, urged her to call it quits back in 2018, while her brother urged her to keep it going. There she decided to prolong the show three more seasons, but decided those three would be the last.

Warner Bros.’ President Mike Darnell weighed in:

“Although all good things must come to an end, you still have hope that truly great things never will.

It was the hardest show we’ve ever had to launch in the history of our company.”

Ellen says she would love to continue a career in acting, just like her wife, and though she still has thoughts about a sitcom, it seems very unlikely. She also wants to really focus more on animal conservation:

“I don’t know if that’s really what I want to do next, but movies for sure. If there were a great role, I’d be able to do that, which I’m not able to do now. I’m opening my campus in Rwanda next year and I want to be more involved with conservation and everything that matters to me as far as the environment and animals.”

Many have speculated that the decision to call an end to the show correlated with the allegations that leaked about DeGeneres last summer, as several former co-workers noted that she was not a friendly person behind close doors, and was very difficult to work with.

And with recent allegations of racial behavior and intimidation, it’s probably time to just close the book

However, Ellen claims that the allegations had no effect on the show, and the move was simply her decision.

“It almost impacted the show. It was very hurtful to me. I mean, very. But if I was quitting the show because of that, I wouldn’t have come back this season. So, it’s not why I’m stopping…”

Sure…

Either way, Ellen did prove that Garth Brooks might in fact be hiding bodies when she tried to scare him.

I mean, he didn’t even flinch…
