Written by written by Roger Murrah and Mark Alan Springer, “Where Corn Don’t Grow” was originally released by Waylon Jennings on his 1990 album, The Eagle.
According to Springer, Steve Wariner and Joe Diffie also recorded great versions of it (not released), but when Travis Tritt got a hold of it in 1996, that’s when it became a hit. The second single from his The Restless Kind record, it went on to crack the top 10 in the following year in 1997.
However now, it’s Riley Green’s turn to take a run at this ’90s country classic. Originally released as an Amazon Music exclusive, the tune is now available everywhere.
“I released my own version of ‘Where Corn Don’t Grow’ originally recorded by Waylon Jennings and covered by Travis Tritt.”
Back in 1997, Tritt and Jennings (alongside Diffie and Wariner) actually performed the song together at the Grand Ole Opry.
