How does this surprise anybody?

Dubrovnik, Croatia, the beautiful city that set the scene for King’s Landing in the popular HBO series,Ā Game of ThronesĀ is overrun with fans of the show, there’s GOT tours, merch and you can even sail to an island where they have a small museum with an exact replica of the Iron Throne.

Don’t get me wrong, I sure as hell hopped on that boat when I was there last year, went to that crazy rabbit island where they keep the museum and sat on that Iron Throne like I was Jon Snow, but that’s not the point. Tourism is pretty much always great for a local economy, but Dubrovnik is just a beautiful city with amazing people, food, and culture. Chernobyl is the site if a nuclear disaster where a lot of people died. Maybe have a modicum of respect for what happened there?

But unfortunately, thanks to the popularity of HBO’sĀ Chernobyl,Ā we get pictures like this…

The influx of tourism there, and the amount of tasteless photos like the one above have even caught the attention of the show’s creators, urging fans to remember that a “terrible tragedy occurred there.”

Visit places around the world, remember your history, take pictures, just don’t be an asshole… is that so hard?
