If this Florida’s family fence was put up to keep big alligators out… they are going to have to rethink the height and the layout.
Floridians that feel safe having fences and gates around their homes should think again. It appears than an alligator can climb any wall or structure it needs to, especially if it’s as large as the one in this picture.
This particular prehistoric creature was spotted in a neighborhood near the Everglades, and was videoed by a Florida resident named Vanessa. The video was then posted by Florida Meteorologist Matt Devitt, who has kind of taken the role of “Chief Alligator Social Media Poster” in the Sunshine State.
If anything in the realm of alligators happens in Florida, Devitt is all over it.
This footage shows what appears to be a 6-foot alligator lurking around in the Florida family’s fenced-in backyard. How’d it get in there? Well, there’s either an open gate somewhere off screen, or the gator utilized its climbing ability to scale the sucker (they are surprisingly good at climbing).
And what makes this video that much more concerning? There’s a deflated kiddie pool sitting right on the family’s back porch. To think that the child plays right there, and here’s this monster gator walking right through the yard… that’s got to be concerning for the Florida family.
But that’s one of the many things you agree to deal with when you live in Florida. You are going to have to dodge hurricanes, you are going to struggle with swamp a** on the regular, and you will more than likely cross paths with alligators from time to time. That being said, you’d hope it wouldn’t be this close to where you sleep:
“Welcome to Florida… where Jurassic Park is right in your backyard. Never a dull moment living near the Everglades.”
“Never a dull moment” is putting things lightly.
As you might imagine, the video has gotten a lot of attention online. Many social media users have pointed out that gators passing through is a very normal, Florida activity. Others made jokes about the effectiveness of fencing in the “Sunshine State.” Guess there’s no such thing as “gator proof” fencing, eh?
