“I Am Mentally Unwell”: Colter Wall Announces An Indefinite Hiatus From Touring

Prayers up for Colter Wall.

As one of the key members of the alternative country movement over the last decade, Colter Wall’s importance to the genre cannot be understated. Debuting in 2015 with Imaginary Appalachia, during a time when the genre as a whole was in complete shambles thanks to the popularity of bro-country, the Canadian singer/songwriter has remained one of the forefathers of today’s independent movement.

Despite the popularity across the board, highlighted by massive hits such as “Sleeping on the Blacktop,” “The Devil Wears a Suit and Tie,” “Kate McCannon” and more, it seems as if Wall has never been one who enjoyed or even wanted the fame, being famous for living off the grid, ranching and generally keeping to himself in between shows and album releases.

2025 marked a big year for the “Caroline” singer, not only did he release his sixth studio album, Memories and Empties, but he also scheduled a lengthy, 25-show tour behind the record from January to March.

Sadly, however, it seems as if the stress on the road has gotten to Wall over the past few months. Taking to Instagram today, he announced that he is taking an indefinite hiatus from touring, citing his declining mental health over the past few months of the tour.

In the post, Wall would note that he has pushed himself as far as he can, but it has simply been too much to bear. He would also thank his fans for their understanding before offering refunds for the remaining four shows of the tour that were subsequently canceled.

“Myself and the band and the crew are very grateful for the privilege to play music together for you we thank you for it. The truth is that I am mentally unwell. Despite this, I have pushed myself to continue with touring. As a result my mental health has only further declined.

After discussions with my team, we have decided to cancel the remaining shows and take an indefinite hiatus from live music. Thank you for your understanding and support. Tickets will be refunded automatically from original point of purchase.”

Unfortunately, it seemed as if the writing was on the wall for this touring hiatus. Over the weekend, Wall abruptly cancelled his Sunday night show in Evansville, Indiana, mere minutes before he was set to take the stage after opener, Kade Hoffman, performed his opening set, leaving fans both confused and worried for Wall.

Sadly, this isn’t the first time Wall has cancelled a tour in the past year. If you recall, 2025 seemingly got off to a rocky start for Wall as he cancelled his February and March shows to October of 2025 due to “personal reasons” regarding his mental and physical health, and it seems as if the cycle has repeated once again this year, unfortunately.

As one of the most talented and influential artists working today, it’s hard to understate the impact Wall has had on the genre over the past decade. With that being said, an artist’s health, and more importantly, mental health, should always come first. Given his private nature, it’s likely we won’t know exactly what’s going on behind the scenes. At the very least, keep Colter in your prayers over the next few weeks.
