The internet got it wrong? Shocking…
There’s been all kinds of speculation flying since it was revealed earlier this week that Jelly Roll had filed for divorce from his wife Bunnie Xo.
TMZ broke the news that Jelly Roll, whose real name is Jason DeFord, filed for divorce from his wife Bunnie Xo, whose real name is Alisa DeFord, back on May 18 in Williamson County Chancery Court, just outside of Nashville.
Whiskey Riff obtained a copy of the divorce complaint that was filed by the “Save Me” singer, which reveals that the couple separated on May 9, a week and a half before the request for a divorce was filed. He cites “irreconcilable differences” as the grounds for the divorce, which in Tennessee is a no-fault grounds for divorce that means that the parties agree on the terms of the separation.
With so little information out there, and with internet sleuths analyzing everything for clues, there have been all kinds of rumors flying about the couple – including that Bunnie is dating Nickelback lead singer Chad Kroeger.
The speculation started when, on the day the divorce was made public, Bunnie posted a story of herself singing along to the rock band’s song “How You Remind Me,” hours before the bombshell news of the divorce was first reported.
Well those internet sleuths began digging into her social media, and found a video from May 27 of Bunnie hugging Kroeger backstage at a show with the caption “The moment I finally got to be back in his arms…”

All of this led to rumors and unverified “reports” flying around that Bunnie was in a relationship with the Nickelback singer. But tonight in a new episode of her Dumb Blonde Podcast, she quickly shut those down.
Bunnie says that the video of her hugging Kroeger was from one of Jelly Roll’s concerts back in 2025, when the Nickelback frontman joined him on stage for a song. And she says that she had taken a break from social media after the divorce was filed and didn’t have any new content to post – so she threw up an old video, not thinking anything of it:
“I posted it in 2025 and everybody’s like, ‘This is so disrespectful.’ But it’s literally me like, tongue in cheek being – cause I always call him Daddy Chaddy as a joke.
Literally such a joke. I have so much respect for Chad and all of them. They’re the sweetest humans ever. Would never want to disrespect them. Had no idea that the divorce was going to be announced, you know, a couple weeks after that. I had posted that two weeks ago. …
I posted that cause I just didn’t have any content to post that day and you can’t keep your socials cold because if you do that, it f—s up your algorithm. So, every week I try to at least drop something. But as I’ve been healing behind the scenes, I just haven’t been wanting to be online anymore because it’s just not what I want to do right now. So, anyways, I post that video.”
As for the video posted on the day of the divorce becoming public, Bunnie says that was completely coincidental:
“I hadn’t posted on my social medias in about a week and I was just like, “Oh, I should post.” You know? So, I post a Nickelback song because Nickelback is like one of my favorite bands. You guys know that. So, I post this Nickelback song, not thinking anything of it. Not a shot at J in any sort of way, not even realizing that it’s a breakup song. It’s trending on TikTok. So, I was like, “Oh, f— yeah. Nickelback’s trending on TikTok. I’m going to do a TikTok to it.” …
The news drops, I have f—ing Nickelback on my f—ing page.”
Of course the internet ran with the rumors as they tried to put the pieces together, but Bunnie shuts down any speculation of a relationship between her and Kroeger:
“I get where people are trying to put puzzle pieces together, but you’re putting a puzzle together with missing pieces, and it’s not even like that.
I am not with Daddy Chaddy, there is no f—ing way in hell that that would even be a thing. And no I did not cheat on my husband and leave him for Chad. …
I am not dating Chad Kroeger. I am so sorry to Chad and Nickelback for this happening. It’s embarrassing. … I love them and would never – it’s so f—ed up that the internet can just run with a narrative.”
Bunnie also revealed that Jelly Roll had already started dating since the divorce – but clarified that she has no interest in jumping right into another relationship:
“Your girl is not going to ever be in another relationship. I’m about to be a playa.”
There you have it. She’s just a Nickelback fan – and in 2026, I feel like more people should embrace it because honestly, Nickelback rocks and I’m not ashamed to say it.
