While a ton of Yellowstone spinoffs have gotten off the ground in the past couple of years, one that was long-rumored and highly anticipated may not happen after all.
Ever since the flagship series took the world by storm, the Yellowstone universe has slowly expanded (both into the past and into the future). One spinoff that has been talked about ever since the western series started branching off was 6666, which was first teased in February of 2021. An official report in 2022 revealed that the spinoff series would be joining the Paramount Network and Paramount+, and that the show would focus on Jimmy (Jefferson White) and Walker (Ryan Bingham).
There was even an official synopsis for 6666 that was released a couple of years back:
“Founded when Comanches still ruled West Texas, no ranch in America is more steeped in the history of the West than the 6666.
Still operating as it did two centuries before, and encompassing an entire county, the 6666 has inspired a new scripted series where the rule of law and the laws of nature merge in a place where the most dangerous thing one does is the next thing.
The 6666 is synonymous with the merciless endeavor to raise the finest horses and livestock in the world, and ultimately where world-class cowboys are born and made.”
Sounds like a great show that would easily peak the interest of Yellowstone fans.
The only problem? There haven’t been many updates of substance since 2022. In fact, even something that was said about the spinoff by Taylor Sheridan himself in 2023 didn’t sound great. When he spoke to The Hollywood Reporter, the writer, director and creator explained that one of the issues with 6666 was shooting on the actual Four Sixes Ranch:
“That, for a number of reasons, needs a unique level of special care because this is a real place with real families working here. You have to respect the lineage. I’ve told (the studio) to be patient.”
And I’m guessing that patience is probably wearing thin, because the calendar is about to turn over to 2026 and there’s still no official word on the future of the series.
If that quote from Sheridan didn’t give off good vibes about 6666 still happening, then this revelation from Jefferson White – who was supposed to reprise his role as Jimmy in the series – during a recent interview is almost a death blow. White was asked by the Daily Mail to provide any information about the spinoff, and the actor unfortunately had nothing. He voiced that he’d love to explore more of his character, especially at the Four Sixes Ranch – one of the oldest and largest ranches in the United States.
But as of right now, there’s not a whole lot on the 6666 front:
“Not that I know of now. I kept my fingers crossed, but also, I’d be grateful if I got to do more and I’m grateful for what I got to do. I don’t want to be selfish. We got a lot of great mileage out of that show.”
That’s not exactly promising.
It’d be a real shame if 6666 never happened, because it’d be really cool to see more from Jefferson White and Ryan Bingham in their respective roles. That being said, with Taylor Sheridan’s eventual exit from Paramount, it makes sense that some planned or rumored shows might go to the wayside… and one of those could be 6666.
