The ’90s were a special time for country music.
Hairstyles were outrageous, outfits were outspoken, music was twangy, and people really just seemed to be focused on having a good time. At least that’s what it looks like from the perspective of someone born in 1995…
But we also must admit that at times, especially as people adapted to the new medium of the internet, that things got a bit corny, to say the least. Of course, this lead to some absolutely iconic styles, pictures, and music videos, and that last item is what I want to look at today.
There’s no shortage of incredible country music videos from the 1990’s but which one really sums up that decade, with all the good, bad, and in-between, the best? You let us know on social media.
Here’s some great ones for your consideration:
Sammy Kershaw – “Queen Of My Double Wide Trailer”
Leather jackets, small town diners, a random abandoned warehouse? It’s a beautiful day in the trailerhood.
Tracy Byrd – “Watermelon Crawl”
Try to watch this and not start dancing or pounding beers. It’s impossible.
Trisha Yearwood – “Walkaway Joe”
How can you argue with Matthew McConaughey playing a lead role in this one?
Alan Jackson – “Chattahoochee”
Obviously this one gets our vote… Jet skiing in ripped jeans and a cowboy hat? This man is beyond legend.
The Dixie Chicks – “Goodbye Earl”
Did you know this Earl is the same Earl that tried to steal Sammy Kershaw’s girl in the “Queen Of My Double Wide Trailer” video?
Brooks & Dunn – “Boot Scootin’ Boogie”
This was originally an Asleep at the Wheel song but it didn’t become the line-dancing song of choice for honky tonks around this great nation.
Shania Twain – “Man! I Feel Like A Woman”
At least in my book, this qualifies as the weirdest video on this list, but hey, can’t argue with success right?
Chris LeDoux – “For Your Love”
This one will literally take you all over the map. Scientist, medieval soldier, snake wrangler, I mean what can’t Chris Ledoux? (Sorry for that pun, had to do it)
Reba & Linda Davis – “Does He Love You”
Yes, this is a very sad song but the outfits in this video are just insane…
Jo Dee Messina – “Heads Carolina, Tails California”
Ahh, the warmth of a strong red filter… I get music video production was still pretty new at this point but man, who decided to coat the video in rouge?
Sawyer Brown – “Some Girls Do”
Some girls don’t like quintessentially 90’s music videos like this, but some girls do.. And those girls are the best.
Toby Keith – “How Do You Like Me Now?”
This one snuck in right at the buzzer (released November of 1999) but how can you not include some Toby Keith in this list? The number of choices were nearly countless but I had to go with this classic song that I guarantee will be stuck in your head now that you’ve thought of it.
Joe Diffie – “Pickup Man”
The plot more or less follows the song with cut scenes to a good old fashioned bonfire party. RIP Joe Diffie, we certainly won’t get another one like you.
