New York City Mayor Eric Adams is currently and rightfully catching flak for some questionable comments he made about 9/11 in a recent interview.
The city of New York, along with the rest of the world, will never forget the tragic events that played out on September 11th, 2001 when terrorists hijacked four commercial airline flights and planned to fly them into four select landmarks. Two of those flights crashed into the Twin Towers, which stood in lower Manhattan and acted as a staple of the New York City skyline.
2,966 people tragically lost their lives that day, and the world was forever changed following those attacks. Anyone and everyone knows that you must speak carefully about the infamous day out of respect for the victims, though the current mayor of New York City must have missed out on that memo.
Mayor Eric Adams sat down with a local news station in New York to talk about the past year, and the reporter sitting across from him wanted to know what Adam thought about 2023 as a whole. The newscaster proposed a pretty simple question, asking:
“So when you look at the totality of the year, if you had to describe it, and it’s tough to do, in one word, what would that be? And tell me why.”
People in the media would describe that as a “softball” question, meaning that it’s very easy to “hit,” and it doesn’t set out to put the person answering in a bad position.
So what did Mayor Eric Adams do it with? Well, sticking with the “softball” metaphor, he took a big swing and missed horribly.
Adams responded with:
“New York. This is a place where every day you wake up, you could experience everything from a plane crashing into our Trade Center to a person who’s celebrating a new business that’s open.
This is a very, very complicated city. And that’s why this is the greatest city on the globe.”
Yikes…
If you don’t believe the current mayor of New York City actually said that, you can view the video of his response (which has been making the rounds on social media) below:
First off, the reporter said to use one word, and “New York” is technically (and obviously) two words. But more importantly, why would you include the tragedy of 9/11 in an answer about New York City being the best city on the planet? Taking lessons from Sean McDermott?
Social media was ripping Adams over his questionable answer, sending out replies to the video of the interview, saying:
He found 11 on cringe volume
