Rascal Flatts frontman, Gary Levox, is sick and tired of hearing Ella Langley’s “Choosin’ Texas.”
In his defense, the country hit from Langley is inescapable at this point. She released it back in October of last year, and once it caught fire in 2026 (and began collecting “Ella Fellas” from every corner of the world), it has stayed ablaze. It’s not even a stretch to call it one of the biggest country hits of all time.
“Choosin’ Texas” currently holds the record for longest-running No. 1 hit by a female artist this century. Ella’s catchy tune has stayed atop the Billboard Hot 100 for 16 straight weeks, and is showing no signs of slowing down.
If you were to ask Gary Levox, the lead vocalist for Rascal Flatts, he’s got somewhat mixed feelings about that. On one hand, he loves the song and admires the run that Langley is currently on. On the other hand… he’s had it with “Choosin’ Texas” getting stuck in his head, as he explained to the Big D & Bubba radio show:
“Well, you know, I love it but I (hate it). I might have to put Ella in a choke hold because if I hear that freaking song (one more time). And when it starts, I just can’t (get it out of my head).”
Same.
One of the co-hosts was right to point out that Levox was guilty of doing the same thing back in the 2000s, when Rascal Flatts released their cover (yes, it’s a cover) of “Life Is A Highway” in 2006 and it blew up thanks to being included in the Pixar movie Cars.
Levox admitted that was true, but still didn’t let up with the “Choosin’ Texas” complaining. From his perspective, the Ella Langley track has the power to stick with you for long periods of time. The riff, the hook, the chorus… everything about it is infectious, and the Rascal Flatts frontman can’t take it anymore:
“It’s just that melody. When it starts, I’m done for the day. ‘She’s from Texas I can tell’ and I just automatically, 1000%, the rest of the day hum it all freaking day long.”

Levox also said Stella Lefty’s “Boston” is another song that he loves so much that he hates.
The Rascal Flatts frontman isn’t alone in this complaint. There’s a reason why “Choosin’ Texas” has become the monster hit that it is… it’s an earworm. You can’t help but get caught up in it when it comes on, and there’s endless revisit-ability. That’s why Gary Levox loves to hate it, and why it’s been No. 1 on the charts for an astounding 16-straight weeks.
