Setting the record straight…again.
It seems like every few months the internet is trying to set Megan Moroney up with a new man. Last year the internet went wild when they thought the “Am I Okay?” singer was dating Riley Green after the two apparently vacationed together in the tropics. And of course there was the speculation surrounding her relationship with Morgan Wallen a couple of years ago, after fans theorized that he was the Volunteers fan who was the subject of her hit single “Tennessee Orange.” (And Moroney also confirmed that she was, in fact, wearing Morgan’s shirt in her now-viral photo…)
But last year, internet sleuths also began speculating that she was dating another country superstar (and Tennessee fan): Kenny Chesney.
The 28-year-old country singer opened for the 58-year-old Chesney on his massive Sun Goes Down Tour back in 2024, and would frequently duet together during their shows. They also released an official duet, “You Had To Be There,” which Moroney wrote as a thank you to Chesney for taking her out on tour, and she frequently cites him as one of her best friends and biggest mentors in the music industry:
“Some days, I’ll just wake up and be like, ‘Oh. Kenny Chesney is one of my best friends. Cool.”
Despite their 30-year age difference though, some fans thought there was something more going on between them:
“Does anyone else think Megan and Kenny are dating? All the island pics she’s posted, a lot lately, they toured together, and she posted a recent fav song of his…?”
Of course she shut down those (insane) rumors, and during a recent interview with B-Dub Radio got a laugh at people who somehow think her and Kenny are more than good friends when asked the most ridiculous rumors she’s heard about herself:
“Probably that me and Kenny Chesney are dating. That’s crazy. That’s a good one.”

Of course Kenny has always been notoriously private with his personal life following his short-lived marriage to Renée Zellweger back in 2005. But he also recently opened up another aspect of his private life that he likes to keep out of his music.
During a conversation with Bill Maher on his Club Random Podcast, Kenny spoke about why he doesn’t like to speak on politics:
“I’ve just never felt like it was my place. There’s a certain ego that lives in there, a certain box inside your head and your soul that you have to check for some reason to think that you can make a difference. And I (just don’t know)…
I’ve never saw it to be my place, and use my stage or platform, no matter where I’m playing, to tell people how to think or how to vote. They hear that and get that everywhere else. On every device, on every network. They are there as an escape from all of that stuff.”
While there’s a lot we may not know about Kenny’s personal life, there’s one thing we can be certain of: He’s not dating Megan Moroney.
