We need the studio cut ASAP.

Megan Moroney is wrapping up the American leg of her Cloud 9 tour this weekend in Nashville, before she heads to Europe for a couple months to finish out the run.

And during the concert last night, she debuted a new song seemingly written with Jesse Alexander, who joined her onstage to play the full tune. It finds Megan reflecting on a lost love and how nothing she’s seen, as incredible as it all was, has compared to him.

She does these kind of forlorn, melancholy songs so well… this sounds like another hit to me:

“I’ve been to Times Square on New Year’s Eve,
Midnight confetti falling down on me,
I’ve been in Vegas, I stayed in one of those,
Sky high presidential suites,
What a dream,
I’ve heard the voice of Elvis from Graceland,
Down the hall,

I’ve seen the Smoky Mountains in the fall,
But I’d take your eyes over every sky in Southern California,
I’d trade a thousand Georgia nights for your kisses in the morning,
I could go anywhere,
I swear around the world and go see all there is to see,
But it’s always gonna be you and me”

I already love the sound of this one, it feels right in her wheelhouse in terms of the kind of sad, more stripped back simple songs she does so well. I can’t wait to hear the full version hopefully sooner rather than later.

Fans have been speculating that Megan is gearing up to release a deluxe edition of her aforementioned her Cloud 9 album, and considering she played this one in-full at last night’s concert with her co-writer, it would seem that may actually be the case. I’m sure she has several new tunes up her sleeve, and she has said before that she isn’t planning to start writing for the next album until this tour is over, but I could totally see a deluxe edition coming out.

Megan has been on an incredible run this tour. She’s definitely a natural entertainer and knows how to put on a great show. This year really has been huge for her and I don’t see that momentum slowing down anytime soon.

Megan also told the crowd a little bit about the song, saying she had just written the second verse yesterday but she wanted to spotlight one of her favorite co-writers, in addition to thanking all of her songwriters who were there for everything they do to help her put out great music:

“I have to  say that, there are no plans for this song as of now, like, maybe it’s a duet. I don’t know, if y’all hear it as a duet,  I have no idea. Usually when  I tease things, it’s fully produced in the studio and stuff. Haven’t gone in the studio, but I could always go tomorrow, so if you guys like it, maybe I’ll go tomorrow, I don’t know.

I wanted to share a brand new song with you guys that I actually wrote on the same writers trip that I wrote songs like ‘Medicine,’ ‘Beautiful Things’ and I decided that it would be really fun to bring out one of my co-writers to do it with me, so please welcome to the stage Jessi Alexander. She’s an icon, she’s written songs like ‘The Climb,’ by Miley Cyrus, ‘God Gave Me You’ by Blake Shelton, some of my favorites, and obviously, we write a ton together. I was just thinking about Nashville, and I was like, what are my happiest moments here.

I would say 99% of them have happened in writers rooms. I love songwriters, I love writing songs, I truly think that I would implode if I couldn’t write songs… so writing songs is very healing, and I feel really, really lucky to have such an amazing community of songwriters that have let me trauma dump on them and share their incredible talent and magic with me. I couldn’t do it without all of my amazing songwriters.”

Here’s the video of their performance:
