Sounds like Season 2 of Marshals is going to be significantly longer than Season 1, which is currently airing on CBS.
The Yellowstone spinoff stars Luke Grimes as Kayce Dutton, and while there has been some criticism of the procedural drama, overall, it has been a big success. They have already confirmed that Season 2 is set to air this fall, and according to Grimes, they’re going to deliver at least 18 episodes for Season 2, and possibly 20, which will start filming in May:
“In May. No, it’s going to be more than that. It’s up in the air right now, it’s either going to be 18 or 20. They like it.”
Some fans have complained about the writing and the storyline of the show, but this is just the first season, so I have to imagine the writers and producers will take some of that into consideration for next season, and I think a lot of fans will continue to tune in, if only to continue seeing a fan-favorite Dutton on screen:

Marshals is tracking to become the most-watched television show of the current broadcast season, and it’s also very likely to claim the title of most-watched scripted program, and that’s even including viewership via streaming. Amy Reisenbach, a CBS Entertainment prexy, had this to say about Marshals‘ strong start at the network:
“‘Marshals’ delivered a breakout performance, capturing a massive audience across platforms and quickly establishing itself as one of TV’s most powerful new series. The overwhelming viewer response speaks to the strength of the ‘Yellowstone’ world, the bold character driven storytelling from the creative team and the dynamic cast performances led by Luke Grimes.”
The massive response to the show led to the official order of a second season of Marshals back in early March… and that came as no surprise. The Yellowstone brand just has that kind of carry, and it translated quite well into network television (that’s somewhat dependent on who you ask).
CBS recently revealed some details about their primetime schedule for the 2026-2027 broadcast season, and Season 2 of Marshals was included, though there’s not an official premiere date just yet, but we know the Kayce Dutton-led series will return this fall. Since the show is ending in May, and networks generally start their fall schedule sometime in September, it’s possible that fans of the show will only go three or so months without seeing Kayce Dutton on their televisions. This is a big contrast to the time gaps in some of the seasons of Yellowstone, especially towards the end, so I think fans will be happy about that for sure.
And considering that they’re about to start filming the next season, I have to imagine it will be ready to go sometime in the early fall.
The spinoff sequel is currently airing in the coveted Sunday at 8 E.S.T time slot on CBS, and tomorrow, the very highly-anticipated acting debut of Riley Green will take place, as he is set to appear in four episodes as Garrett, a former Navy SEAL teammate of Kayce and Cal.
You can watch one of his first scenes here, and the full episode will air tomorrow:
