World Cup fans continue to have the time of their lives in the United States of America proving once again that sports is the great unifier.
Remember when all those miserable dorks were worried about the U.S.A. being one of the three countries (along with Canada and Mexico) hosting the 2026 World Cup? You know, all that nonsense about how racist and violent and terrible and unhospitable Americans are? That all seems to be proven utterly false considering all of the hospitality that visitors have been met with. All across the United States, international World Cup fans from all corners of the world are having an absolute blast here in the States, heaping tons of praise of the good citizens of this country.
There’s no better example of that then a German soccer fan named Freddy who is over in the states for the World Cup. His story is insane… and he’s being treated like royalty as he traverses America.
Football stadiums across the country – like in Atlanta, Boston, Dallas, Houston, Kansas City, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Philadelphia Seattle and the San Francisco Bay area – have been transformed into football stadiums for the competition. Teams and their fans are spread out all across the country, and up in Boston, Scottish fans are having such a good time that they’ve drained the city’s bars and liquors stores of almost all of their booze.
England’s team is staying in Kansas City, Missouri, but a group stage game against Croatia has them and their fans currently located in Texas. It was there in Dallas where one England fan stopped to talk to Fox 4 News, and once again let the world know that America is really good at this World Cup hosting thing.
The man – wearing one of the biggest hats I’ve ever seen – kicked off his interview with this:
“I love this beer in this country. It’s really good… the hospitality has been amazing as well.”
Amen to that.
The Fox 4 News reporter went on to ask him if he’s been able to dive into the cuisine in the area, and the English soccer fan excitedly talked about a recent barbecue meal that knocked his socks off:
“I had Texas barbecue yesterday. I had a lovely bit of brisket. I went fatty, I went to slow bone, picked it up, put the sauce on it, dropped it into my mouth, melted in my mouth. It was absolutely beautiful. It’s the best beef I’ve had in my life.”
That’s high praise.
As for other culinary adventures, the England fan did have some gripes with some of the side items that he had consumed recently:
“I had a pork chop. I had some pork ribs and mac and cheese. The mac and cheese was average. Another thing is, what is Brussel spouts gratin about? We have Brussel sprouts at Christmas in England, why do you have it on your barbecue? I don’t know.”
Okay, not liking mac and cheese is a red flag… but questioning the presence of vegetables served with meat? That’s about as American of a comment as you can make.
And the soccer fanatic ended his time with Fox 4 by dropping one of the coldest lines of TV interview history. The reporter asked what his plan was leading up to the match, and the guy was nice enough to answer that… while also telling her he and other England fans’ plan for during and afterwards:
“We’re going to get drunk before the game. We’re going to get drunk during the game. And then we’re going to get drunk after the game.”
Seems to me like World Cup fans are learning why America is the greatest country in the world.
And just for fun, I went ahead and power ranked the “Top 5 Quotes from that England Fan Interview” below. See if you agree with me:
5. “What is Brussel sprouts gratin about?”
4. “I love this beer in this country.”
3. “I had a lovely bit of brisket.”
2. “It’s the best beef I’ve had in my life.”
1. “”We’re going to get drunk before the game. We’re going to get drunk during the game. And then we’re going to get drunk after the game.“
Yeah… I’m gonna have to adopt that line that fell at No. 1 for my personal game plans for future sporting events.
And as if the English weren’t having enough fun with the beer and beef, they’ve officially brought Oasis’ “Wonderwall” into Texas Live…. what a sight to behold:
