“Let’s See If This Piano Works Tonight” — Morgan Wallen Jokes About Piano-Flipping Incident During Night Two In Denver

The piano was safe for night two.

Over the weekend, Morgan Wallen two shows in Denver, Colorado at Empower Field at Mile High, the first night with openers Brooks & Dunn, Gavin Adcock, Vincent Mason. He walked out with Broncos legend John Elway to kick things off:

But when he got to the part where he plays the piano for “Sand In My Boots,” things went a bit awry, and Morgan was having some issues with his piano. Apparently, he couldn’t hear it in his in-ear monitors, which means he couldn’t hear what he was playing at all. It seemed like the fans, at least according to comments I saw on some of the videos, could hear it, but obviously, it’s hard to play the instrument well if you can’t hear it… and Morgan had enough.

I’m sure his sound people tried their best to fix it, but this is live music, so Morgan decided to sing “Sand In My Boots” a cappella, and while the fans didn’t mind at all, I’m sure it’s frustrating as the artist putting on such a massive show, that people paid a hell of a lot of money for, for something like that to go wrong. This part of the show has become a fan-favorite because it’s one the more stripped-back, intimate moments, but the Denver crowd ended up getting something even more unique, so there’s that.

But Morgan seemed to take out some frustration on said piano during night one in Denver, as videos of him flipping it over went viral:

Here’s a closer angle:

And of course, tons of publications and losers on social media wrote headlines like “Morgan Wallen has a MELT DOWN over piano” and “Morgan Wallen loses his temper,” “FURIOUSLY flips…” when the reality is that it was far from anything of the sort. It was rather comical, and given that rock stars have been smashing guitars for decades, I’d hardly call it anything out out the ordinary when it comes to live music performances. Hell, Sturgill Simpson’s keys player was literally surfing on his rig during their epic Saturday Night Live performance of “Call To Arms.”

But nevertheless, look at some ridiculous headlines:

Do better, people…

But for night two, which Morgan once again sold-out and had openers in Ella Langley, Gavin Adcock and Vincent Mason, he seemed to be on better terms with what I imagine is a different piano, joking with the crowd before he played “Sand In My Boots” for them that he was anxious to see if “this piano works tonight”:

“Let’s see if this piano works tonight.”

He had a good laugh himself after he said that, and from what I understand there were no more technical issues with the piano, so thankfully, it all went off without a hitch, or a flip, on Saturday night:
