How does a show move on without its main character? Seems to be all too common on Paramount lately…
That’s what fans of MobLand are asking after finding out that the show’s main star, Tom Hardy, has been fired from the crime drama. Rumors were swirling online indicating that this firing may come, but many found it hard to believe. Even if there was tension between Hardy – who plays (or I guess played) fixer Harry Da Souza – and those onset… how could the show go on without him?
Well, I guess we’ll all find out, because Variety swooped in to confirm that Tom Hardy has been fired from the show, and it happened just after Season 2 wrapped production:
“Sources say Hardy was not asked to return to the series following onset issues with executive producer Jez Butterworth, 101 Studios, and others.”
MobLand hasn’t been picked up for a third season just yet, but the series has been a monster hit for Paramount+ (it was the second most watched show on the streaming service when it dropped last year), so many expect for it go another season. Though the Hardy firing news certainly complicates that… because they’d have to write their main character out of the show.
Yellowstone felt a whole lot different after Kevin Costner was killed off. The Office limped for a couple of seasons after Steve Carrell exited. The fans that were still watching The Walking Dead jumped ship after Andrew Lincoln (who played Rick Grimes) left the show. All that to say, when you build a show around a certain character – and then they are suddenly no longer there – it doesn’t pack the punch that it once did.
You do have Pierce Brosnan and Helen Miren, and an all around great cast, but it’s gonna be the death of the show. Full stop. Most fans of MobLand are calling them for to just pull the plug rather than move forward without Tom Hardy:
He was mobland!!! The show was centered around him… so stupid to fire the main character!! But… maybe Charlie Hunnam can step in???

Getting fired AFTER Season 2 wrapped is somehow even messier because now everyone’s wondering how they explain his absence.

This just goes to show how out of touch the higher ups are from reality. They’ve just killed the show dead.

HARDY IS THE SHOW. Air season 2 and then cancel it. @paramountplus will try and season 3 just to see if it will work without Hardy. IT WILL FAIL!

Too bad, it was great, but let’s be honest, there is no reason to watch season 3 without Tom Hardy.

He is the only good part of that show, so just shut the whole thing down

It just goes on and on like that…
