You either get it or you don’t, I guess…

Tonight, Kacey Musgraves performed her song “Dry Spell” on the, ACM Awards, which served as the lead single to her recently-released album Middle Of Nowhere. It was produced by Musgraves produced alongside longtime collaborators Daniel Tashian and Ian Fitchuk.

And as the title suggests, “Dry Spell” is about exactly what you’d think, as Kacey openly admits how long she’s been in a “dry spell,” and how she’s kind of starting to go crazy because of it…

She wrote it with longtime collaborators Luke Laird, Shane McAnally, and Josh Osborne, and it’s a hilarious song full of innuendo that has made me giggle every time I’ve listened to it. The girl has had a “real long 335” days, and she desperately resorted to “sitting on the washing machine”:

“It’s been a real long three-hundred and thirty-five days
And the last time, it wasn’t good anyway
I’m so lonely, lonely with a capital ‘H’
If you know what I mean, I’ve been sitting on the washing machine

Ain’t nobody’s tool up in my shed
Ain’t nobody’s boots under my bed
Ain’t nobody’s truck up in my drive
For a late night call, for a real good time
Ain’t no new notches on my belt
And I’m tired of keepin’ my hands to myself
911, it’s officially a cry for help
Y’all, I’m going through a dry spell, yep”

I mean, some may clutch their pearls, and that’s totally fine, but I have to laugh because the writing is so smart and clever, which is something I can always count on with Kacey and love about her as an artist. And she gave it the full treatment during the show, singing the opening verse while sitting on a washing machine, of course… you also see her throw some (literal) sausage in her grocery buggy, and there’s tons of other innuendo in there too. She was basically up there doing a bit, and I found it to be really funny and unlike anything else we’ve seen tonight.

Love it or hate it, no one does it like Kacey… she can strip it back and captivate a room with an acoustic performance, which she has done before, or she can do something super wacky and funny like this:

As you can imagine, the early reaction is very mixed, and I kind of think that was the intention… or at least, the expectation:

This is where I’m at, though… I love all the up-and-coming country ladies, Ella swept for a reason, but Kacey is forever my queen:
