Raising these kids right.
There is a lot of bald eagle news coming out of Big Bear Lake, California these days, and I am here for it. A video camera has captured the public’s attention after going viral, showing two well-known birds named Jackie and Shadow, who have been using this nest since at least January of last year. It was then that the bald eagle couple first went viral after the mother, Jackie, was caught on camera toughing out an extreme winter storm.
Check it out:
Fans of Jackie and Shadow have kept an eye on the large nest that these two mates call home, and now some exciting news has popped up on camera, having all eyes back on the livestream. The live camera recently confirmed that the famous bald eagle parents are welcoming their eaglets into the world. Well… at least one of them has been described as a “pip,” where the eaglet breaks through the internal membrane of the egg. It’s a great sign, and indicates that the hatching process – which can take 24 to 48 hours – has begun.
The social media account “National Park News” shared a video of the visible “pip” on the live stream, and also added in another clip where some other bald eagle parents (not Jackie and Shadow) have welcomed three eaglets of their own:
“It’s happening, everyone! There’s a confirmed pip at Jackie and Shadow’s nest! That means a chick in one of their two eggs has broken through the internal membrane of the egg and taken its first breath.”
Nature is amazing.
Now, a bald eagle in captivity is gaining some traction online after a group of school children tipped their hats to the bird of our nation. At Big Bear Alpine Zoo, the resident bald eagle received an unexpected serenade from a group of children visiting the zoo. According to the zoo’s website, their bald eagle, Valentine, was brought to the facility on February 14th 2004, by Fish and Wildlife. Valentine suffers from severe cataracts from DDT poisoning and has limited vision, but that does not stop her from calling to other birds in the zoo.
Nor does it stop her from perking up when she hears children singing to her.
A social media user captured a tender moment when a group of children serenaded the eagle with the “Star Spangled Banner” after learning that the bald eagle was adopted as the official bird of the United States of America.
“At Big Bear Alpine zoo and these kiddos broke out in song, serenading the Bald Eagle after reading the placard about it being adopted as the national bird.”
The user, @jmanroo, shared in the caption of the sweet video. The children are gathered around the enclosure, belting out the lyrics to the statuesque eagle. Valentine sits perfectly still during the performance, as if she knows she is being honored by this group of children.
The moment honestly left me with chills. These kids are being raised right.
