A Texas country music fan favorite, Tanner Usrey, was arrested in Collin County, Texas this week, which is located in North Texas, directly north of Dallas County, and is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington metropolitan area.

According to a Facebook post from Collin County Inmates page, he was hit with three charges, including his second Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) charge and two felony drug possession charges. “POSS CS PG 2 >= 4G<400G” refers to Possession of a Controlled Substance, Penalty Group 2, weighing at least 4 grams but less than 400 grams. Penalty Group 2 substances can include mushrooms, ecstasy/MDMA, Adderall, PCP, GHB, among others.

“POSS CS PG 1/1-B >=4G<200G” includes Penalty Group 1, which encompasses substances like cocaine, methamphetamine, heroin, oxycodone and other opioids, and PG 1-B specifically refers to fentanyl, its isomers, or analogs.

2. POSS CS PG 1/1-B >=4G<200G
3. POSS CS PG 2 >= 4G<400G”

The page also states that he has already been released:

Usrey is a Texas native, known for songs like “Beautiful Lies” and “Come Back Down,” and his music has also been featured on hit TV shows like Yellowstone and Landman. He most recently released his 2025 album These Days, which was produced by Dave Cobb and showed off his distinctively swampy, gritty, and soulful sound that makes him a unique and interesting figure within the larger country music scene.

Usrey has built a dedicated fan base through basically staying out on the road playing live shows, and during an appearance on the Whiskey Riff Raff podcast last summer, he admitted that he prefers it that way to the modern trend of using TikTok to again a quick audience by going viral. Usrey signed to a major label deal with Atlantic Records in 2023, and subsequently released his major label album, Crossing Lines.

Earlier this year, a Wyoming man was arrested for making “Charlie Kirk death threats” to Usrey seemingly because he was set to perform at Kid Rock’s Rock The Country festival.

Usrey has yet to publicly address the DWI incident, and perhaps he won’t given that the matter is ongoing, but hopefully this can be a learning moment for the 32-year-old. Substance abuse issues plague the country music world, and DUIs are certainly nothing to take lightly. Whiskey Riff has been a supporter of Usrey and we sincerely hope that he can get whatever kind help he may need.

Stay tuned for updates.
