A reset is in store for Landman?
Taylor Sheridan’s hit show honing in on the Texas oil business certainly has the attention of the masses with its first two seasons. Fans have loved seeing the curtain pulled back on the oil industry (albeit an exaggerated version), and the show, boasting a cast of Billy Bob Thornton, Demi Moore, Andy Garcia, Sam Elliott, Ali Larter, Jacob Lofland, and Michelle Randolph – among others – has been an undeniable success.
Season 2’s premiere holds the title of the biggest season or series premiere ever for Paramount+. More than 9 million people viewed the first episode of the second season in the first fews days it was available on the streamer. That number was more than triple what the series premiere of Landman did in 2024. I expect Season 3 will probably follow that trend, even with some people describing portions of the second season as “unwatchable.”
The last two episodes of Season 2 turned things around for the most part, but the chaotic and thudding ending of the second season did leave a number of things up in the air. So it makes sense that Landman co-creator, Christian Wallace, used the word “reset” when he was asked what fans can expect out of Season 3.
He also made sure to point out that the third season couldn’t be in better hands, as Taylor Sheridan has historically delivered exciting television when he puts pen to paper on a script:
“There’s a great level of trust there that whatever Taylor (Sheridan) decides will be the right move. There are a lot of possibilities, but I’m not sure myself exactly how it’s going to play out. So, we’ll see.”
That’s an interesting dynamic. eh? That the show’s co-creator doesn’t even really know where Season 3 could take the likes of Tommy Norris and Cami Miller?
Though I say that, Christian Wallace has a pretty good idea of what next season’s plot will explore. Now that all of the characters are fully fleshed out (Billy Bob Thornton once described Season 2 as a “slow burn,” and that proved to be true), and Tommy Norris and family will be starting their own business, there could be a “starting from scratch” feeling to Season 3.
This answer below from the co-creator definitely backs up that “reset” quote:
“Now we have T.L., Tommy and Cooper all working at the same company, but not under the auspices of this larger corporation. It’s now family-run, very small, starting from almost scratch. That’s a whole new dynamic for them.”
It’s definitely a new dynamic, and one that should be a lot of fun to explore. But as we all know… it’s probably safe to assume that it’s not going to be smooth sailing for the Norris family. That wouldn’t make for exciting television, would it? I’m sure the cartel connection, and butting heads with Demi Moore’s Cami Miller, will play prominent roles as the story of Landman continues.
Unfortunately, we do have to wait a while for the return of Landman. If they go by the schedule they’ve followed the past couple of years, a Season 3 premiere in late fall can be expected… as long as production doesn’t experience any delays or hangups.
Until then, we can fire up the Season 2 recap:
